Overview: Fantasy Flight has created a dark and thematic storytelling board game with echoes of Arkham Horror and Betrayal at House on the Hill. In spite of the high production value and (mostly) high quality components — and, seriously, who hasn’t wanted a set of shoggoth miniatures? — Mansions of Madness has some big flaws. Players: [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2011/04/mansions-of-madness-may-just-drive-you-insane/ Maria Menounos

The straight lines! They’re everywhere! They box you in and tell you where to walk and, like, if you step on one, you break your mother’s spine! I CAN’T TAKE IT. Sweet relief: Bolefloor Hardwood Flooring, which is cut along the grain of the wood to give your floor a little character—and your neuroses a little break. It’s lunchtime during the first of two Star Wars: The Old Republic immersion days at the EA Redwood Shores campus, and the game designers leading the event are panicking: Everyone is talking about Portal 2. Instead of discussing the three exclusive hours of SWTOR we just played, most of the writers are chatting about the [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/04/star-wars-the-old-republic/ Rose McGowan

Last fall, we lamented Apple’s anemic internet game—Ping sucks, iTunes is outdated, and Game Center is left hanging in the background. Now that Windows 8 images have begun leaking out, it’s only a matter of time until developers start releasing mods for Windows 7 which mimic upcoming features. Over at Into Windows, they’ve spotted one such mod already. In the earliest Windows 8 images, we saw Windows Live integration on the taskbar. In the far right corner, there’s a user tile displayed. If you’d like to do the same on Windows 7, download Taskbar User Tile [...]

The developer of iCab Mobile, a feature-rich alternative to the Safari Web browser on iPad and iPhone, has been ordered by Apple to remove its ability to download and install JavaScript modules. Presumably it’s not the fact that iCab can execute JavaScript that’s causing Apple to apoplectically puff and splutter, but rather its ability to download modules. Both Apple and Google frown upon apps that contain market-like functionality, and someone at Apple probably thought that [...]

Every electric racing motorcycle we’ve seen so far has suffered from one major problem: Physics. They’re all perfectly capable of transforming electrons into motive power. And some, like Chip Yates’ 190.6-mph beast, are blindingly quick. But in their pursuit of powertrain innovation, the people building these machines have overlooked, if not forgotten, what’s made internal-combustion-engine motorcycles [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2011/04/amarok-p1-electric-motorcycle/ The Avatars of Second Life

TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related — from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination. Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that’s a neat feature, it’s also a bit of a downer — because, really, it’s about the [...]
