Not that Geohot, famed PS3 hacker who settled with Sony after they went after him with all their legal might, is laughing at those affected by the PSN hacking. Blogging that he feels sorry anyone affected, he also added that he most definitely isn’t behind the hacking: More » Source: http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/gizmodo/full/~3/pyuph0kzVPM/geohot-i-sure-am-glad-i-dont-have-a-psn-account-about-now Sara Foster

Ah, the Razor scooter! You were once accessory du jour. Everyone had one, well, until everyone grew up and realized it was sort of silly to scoot around like a tween. So how do you stay relevant? By attaching chalk to the back of a scooter and adding a “spark bar” that shoots out a trail of sparks? Uhh… More » Source: http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/gizmodo/full/~3/5mgvY6cH4uw/these-official-razor-scooters-shoot-sparks-and-make-marks Mary Elizabeth Winstead

A jailbreak of iOS 4.3.1 is now possible with both PwnageTool on Mac, and Sn0wbreeze on Windows. RedmondPie — who else? — has some handy guides that you can follow for all iOS 4.3.1 devices on Windows, for iPhone 4 on OS X, iPad 1 on OS X, iPhone 3GS on OS X, and iPod touch 4G and 3G on OS X. Australia’s pistachio farmers expected a bumper crop this year. Instead they had a harvest of horrors, with nuts blackened by a fungus that had never before caused an outbreak in pistachios. The culprit was anthracnose, a fungal disease best known for infecting mangoes. It raced through the industry, resulting in a harvest some 50 percent smaller [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2011/04/pistachio-disease/ Teri Hatcher

I have a thing for full-screen text editing. I use WriteMonkey for my creative writing needs, and VIM in a full-screen PuTTY session for my Web development work. That being the case, I’m all over the monospace, dark-background, focused editing scene. OmmWriter attempts to take that aesthetic and make it somehow more spiritual, with three picturesque backgrounds and ambient background audio tracks (there are seven of each in the paid version). I’m of two minds [...]

As far as Tetris goes, most variations look quite similar. You’re usually looking at a “wall” of bricks directly from the front. Torus takes that notion and throws it away; as you might have guessed from the name (or screenshot), this Tetris clone is played on a ring-like 3D surface. You rotate the ring itself with the arrow keys, while a Tetris-like piece slowly (excruciatingly slowly, in fact) descends from the top. As soon as [...]

Electric buses are awesome. They don’t belch exhaust, they’re super-quiet and they’re a relatively easy way to get around town. But unless you’re stringing overhead lines all over the place, the range sucks. A Spanish firm has found a clever solution to that problem and is testing it in UmeĆ„, Sweden. Opbrid tweaked a Volvo 7700 bus [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2011/04/opbrid-arctic-whisperer/ Rachel Blanchard

In most games, dying is a bad thing. You have to start all over again, or at least revert to the last save point and lose some progress. Not so in Survival Lab: in this pixelated gem you play as a lone individual pitted against ruthless weapons in a sealed chamber. You have to run, jump and duck, collecting little yellow things (I have no idea what they’re called). For each donut-like yellow thing you [...]

We’ve been looking at some pretty cool Kinect and Windows interactions for a while now, but we were hoping that the release of an official SDK would lead to even more coolness. Evoluce has stepped up, and is now offering Win&I — a full-featured gesture control system for Windows 7. The company claims that a range of up to four meters is supported, which should be perfect for just about any home theater setting. In [...]
