iPhone/Android: We’re rather fond of RunKeeper, a free app for keeping track of distance traveled while running and cycling, but one problem it had was that it continued logging your time even if you’d stop at a light or to tie your shoe. Panasonic may be on the cusp of launching a true pro-level successor to its excellent GF1, according to leaked photos. Ever since Panasonic started watering down its GF range of Micro Four Thirds cameras after the first model, curmudgeon’s (like me) have been griping. While Panasonic chased the point-and-shoot crowd with the GF2 and GF3, people [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/10/panasonic-gfx-photos-leaked-gf1-successor-at-last/ Mia Kirshner Mía Maestro Michael Michele

Research In Motion continues its trend of getting beaten up week after week with more and more bad news. This time, it had to swallow three separate helpings of trouble affecting everything from its PlayBook tablet to its as-yet unborn BBX operating system. It’s also going to have to deal with some fallout from the massive, days-long, world-wide service outage it suffered a couple of weeks ago. Come spring, there’ll be a new drone in the Special Ops arsenal of annihilation. Call it … the Robotic Russian Doll of Death. Researchers from Naval Air Systems Command, Eglin Air Force Base, and engineering company Navmar Applied Science Corporation are already toiling away at the drone’s design, InsideDefense.com is reporting. And it’s wild: essentially one deadly drone shoved inside a bigger, more benign one. The petite, 13-foot Tigershark drone, already used for surveillance and [...]

Grain conglomerate Archer Daniels Midland has ordered three dry bulk carriers that blow bubbles to improve fuel efficiency. The boats, to be completed by 2014, rely on Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ proprietary Mitsubishi Air Lubrication System (MALS). The setup uses massive blowers to create a layer of bubbles underneath an already streamlined hull in order to further [...] Source: http://www.wired.com/autopia/2011/10/mitsubishi-builds-a-bubble-boat-for-better-efficiency/ Tamie Sheffield Tara Conner Tara Reed
