Years of computer use have taught us that the mouse cursor is “above” the windows. It doesn’t push anything around; at least not without you clicking anything. Bots — like the kind which automate IRC rooms and Google Wave — are a good thing to know about. There are plenty of useful bots worth knowing about, too, including the Google Talk Guru. Just add guru@googlelabs.com to your GTalk buddies, and you can start firing off questions. Lifehacker suggests that the same types of queries supported by Google SMS will work, though we didn’t have any luck getting a response out of the [...]

There was a small comics alley in the exhibit hall at Wordstock, including a booth for the Stumptown Comics Foundation. TripAdvisor, the popular travel planning tool, has just launched an app for Windows Phone 7. Just like the mobile website, the app allows you to search for anything travel-related — from hotels and flights to restaurants and points-of-interest to visit once you reach your destination. Geolocation is supported, which allows TripAdvisor to quickly locate places nearby. But while that’s a neat feature, it’s also a bit of a downer — because, really, it’s about the [...]

It's been a few weeks since Verizon first released the Gingerbread update for the HTC ThunderBolt, only to pull it without official explanation. (Hint: Things were borked.) Looks like the updates set to roll out again, though, with an updated support PDF now live. There's no mention of "things been fixed," so let's just hope that things been fixed. Check out the image above or the link below for the full changelog. Source: Verizon (pdf); [...]

Adobe Systems has announced it’s in the process of fixing a security vulnerability in Flash that would allow malicious web sites to remotely operate a user’s webcam and microphone. Wladimir Palant, developer of the most popular add-on in the world, Adblock Plus, is also an active contributor to the Planet Mozilla blog community. Over the last few days, in response to Mozilla’s new name and shame list of slow add-ons, Palant has been investigating whether Mozilla’s testing methods are actually accurate. Rather surprisingly, it turns out that Mozilla’s numbers could be significantly wrong — and if they’re not wrong, the factors that Mozilla uses [...]
